Adopt the snowy owl

Bubo scandiacus

Apparently Secure according to NatureServe

Habitat: Tundra during summer; prairies and marshes during winter

Diet: Lemmings and other small mammals

Behavior: Diurnal so they can hunt during the continuous daylight of Arctic summer

The snowy owl is a large, striking bird, easily recognized by its bright white plumage, particularly in males, and its brilliant yellow eyes. As North America’s heaviest owl, weighing about four pounds, it is well-insulated against the cold with thick feathers. Snowy owls primarily hunt lemmings and other small mammals, using their powerful talons and sharp beaks. Unlike many owls, they are diurnal and active during the day, especially in the Arctic’s continuous summer daylight. Though widespread, snowy owls face challenges from climate change, habitat loss, and human-related threats, making their future uncertain.
